Out of all the investment lessons that you can learn, the universal common thread that runs through all of them is the fact that you have to LEARN.
It may seem blindingly obvious, but it really isn’t, because if it was, why don’t more people do it? Why don’t more people invest in their own education?
I’ve always said that if you’re not ready to invest in yourself, then you’re not ready to invest in the stock market.
I believe that part of the inertia is because so many people are misinformed about what is involved. This is not the big mammoth task that novice investors think that it is. It’s like walking – difficult to begin with but bloody easy after a short while.
You just have to take one step at a time, and even if you don’t become Usain Bolt, you will almost certainly reach a point where you are at least self-sufficient. You can earn a decent living from the stock market, you understand the basic concepts, and that’s all you really need.
In Panjab, the opportunities are pitiful to what we have here in the Western World. And yet the children over there are desperately clinging onto them. Watching small children sitting on the floor in the baking sun, learning to speak English, is inspirational.
And if these little 7-year-old kids understand the importance of education and self-development, so should we. Just a willingness to commit to your own learning journey, and to adopt a positive attitude to learning is a fantastic start to attaining financial freedom.
